Le Touessrok's
Givenchy Spa
Mauritius
Le Touessrok Givenchy spa resting room

I float between worlds as strong hands move surely across my back de-kinking and de-knotting my traveler’s collection of charley horses. The masseuse, Anne Sophie Dominique, kneads each scrunched muscle urging it to join the rest of me in repose. The heated table, fine Givenchy oils and tranquil atmosphere add their encouragement.

lotusMs. Dominique’s French accent and the plumes of ferns mixed with delicate white lilies in the garden put me in the tropical island world of the Indian Ocean. Yet, the music is the same music that ‘thumbs-of-steel,’ as I call my masseuse back home, plays. I fall into a dreamy world—neither here at the Givenchy Spa in Mauritius nor on the Northern California coast—of soft spa space. It’s a halcyon world of few thoughts and easy feelings.

At the massage’s end, Anne just let’s me be in my reverie. When I do speak, my voice comes out low, from a deep, relaxed place inside me.

Escorted to the resting room and served cool water, I watch as a lazy breeze sets the palm shadows to a slow, sensuous sway. A Birds of Paradise bouquet reminds me of the bedtime-story card my butler left on the pillow last night. It is said the Gods who named these spiky orange and purple beauties gave them strange powers. Every night, once mankind sleeps, they disengage from their stems to take wing and delight the Gods.

Givenchy drawingTo delight us mortals, the Paris Givenchy folks personally designed their Le Touessrok spa’s treatments and trained their masseurs and beauticians. Facials, for example, start with a Givenchy skin diagnosis so an individual treatment can be designed for each face. After the 180-jet Hydrotherapy massage, there’s a rubdown with Givenchy oils that penetrate, I am assured, deeper into the body than normal oil. For a whole new you, there’s the exclusive Givenchy whole-body peal. Perfumes and potions, a rainbow of soft cashmere and even golden teddy bears entice one to take a little Givenchy home from the spa’s shop.

Not satisfied with caring for just body, face, hands and hair, Le Touessrok has a center to take care of those ever-loving lovelies, our feet. Bastien Gonzalez aka the "Prince of Naked Feet," straight from his success in Paris, London and New York, has a Podiatry and Pedicure Center next to the spa. Sensitive feet suffering pain, nail degeneration or just dry skin love ‘the prince.’

Le Touessrok brides-to-be—and there are many of them—have their own Brides Room in the spa. Here, they are pampered with make-up and make-overs, hair design and hydro-care and for that walk down the tropical aisle, ‘the prince’ will make her feet princess-perfect.

Full-sized reproductions of signed Givenchy designs, small topical niches and exposed beams of the domed ceiling—Asian arch meets Midwestern country church—keep the rest of us floating in our own spa reveries. The best of both worlds, if you ask me.
